Source: Carmelle Robichaud (my Mom)

2 or 3 cups PRE-COOKED meat (ground hamburger or chicken or steak or turkey - whatever you wish)

1 green pepper, diced

2 to 4 onions, diced

1 cup of diced celery (approx.)

1 can of mushrooms - do NOT drain - add the juice... OR

1 cup of sliced FRESH mushrooms + 1 can of string beans (with juice)

1/2 cup of Soya Sauce

1/4 to 1/2 cup of oil - (we use Olive Oil)

3-1/2 cups of uncooked Uncle Ben's Rice
2 cups of water

1 package of dry onion soup mix





Throw it all in a roaster or BIG oven pan and mix well.


Cover and cook in oven, at 325 degrees for 1 hour.

Take it out - mix well. Put it back in the oven for 1 more hour. 




NOTE: this is a FAIL PROOF recipe and it makes a BIG batch. We sometimes add broccoli heads, sweet peas - actually any veggie that we have on hand. And as Gilbert is a vegetarian, we use "veggie meat" instead of the real stuff.  You need to keep "liquid quantities" the same... otherwise the rice will be dry and crunchy.


The really ONLY THING that you will need is the UNCLE BEN'S RICE - you know the kind of rice that takes forever to cook?


Trust me - I've tried many other kinds and it doesn't work! *s*
