(Translated in English: Unemployment Pudding)

A traditional Quebec dessert
Source: Pauline Bolduc - Louise's Mom

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup hot water

1 to 2 Tbsp butter

Boil for 2 minutes on top of stove.

1/2 cup milk

1/2 cup white sugar

1 cup flour

1 TBLSP baking powder

Melted Butter

1 Tsp. vanilla.

Mix dough and put in the bottom of a glass bread dish or a very small square dish - 8" X 8" should work.  Add sauce on the top.  Cook in a 350 degree oven for 1/2 an hour or so. The "cake" part will float to the top and the sauce will gather at the bottom.  Best eaten hot but not necessarily.

When we get a hankering for something "sweet", I make this cake.  It's a small cake and once its gone, its gone!

VARIATIONS:  Sauce:  Replace water quantities with:  1/4 cup rum and 1/4 cup water.

Or, in your dough, add a tsp of Rum or Maple Sugar flavoring.
