![]() * * * Geocaching * * Le tigre (hubby) and robich (myself) started Geocaching 30 June 2005. My cousin mentioned it to me and gave us the website addy. Anyhow, we went and surfed on the Geocaching website and was astonished that there were actually some "caches" in our area!!! And then, the more we surfed, we realized that they're ALL OVER THE WORLD!! Imagine that?!?
Now, we didn't have a GPS (Global Positioning System), and didn't want to spend $$ on something we weren't too sure about.
I called up my Dad who told me that his brother had a GPS, but had no idea REALLY how it worked. My mother's cousin (who lives fairly close) had one, too... he too, had no idea how it worked! Gave my Mom's cousin a call and he gladly lent us his GPS for a couple weeks - with apologies - He couldn't find the book, for instructions. "No problem" I told him... we can surely find it on the net.
I came back home with his "Garmin 12". Couldn't find detailed instructions on HIS GPS, but after a week of pressing this button and that one, we finally figured it out for the weekend...
WOO HOO!!! Our first find!!! Walking, following instructions, climbing hill and dale, letting the GPS guide us... WHAT A THRILL!!!
It's like a game of hide and seek mixed up with a treasure hunt - all using hi-tech gadgets. Le tigre & I are now addicted! LOL
Anyhow, this is my page on our new "sport" and new adventures.
Before, whenever we headed out to seek a new cache, we'd almost have to toss a coin as to "who" would hold onto our one and only GPS. Now, we have our own GPS! Now, if only the weather would cooperate! LOL
UPDATE (4 February 2006): Went to our first "Event" and invited (AKA "dragged along") my oldest son - now nicknamed "Mr.HomeBrew". Right after that event, I lent him my GPS and he went "caching" the very same day! He and his girlfriend (~Sugar~) are now bitten by the "Geocaching Bug", worst than us, if that's possible! LOL And I've noticed his tenacity as finding near impossible caches - he's like a pitbull - he NEVER gives up!!! *VBG*
NOTE: Today, as I'm updating my page, I realize that he's already found 25 caches!
NOTE:
Some links on this page are still under construction. Please come back
later. An "Updated Date" will be indicated at the top and bottom of this
