Day 4

 (Saturday - 7 July 2007)

Up bright and early, Saturday morning. Gilbert removes all of the frames or molding around the windows, doors, etc.  We head off to our local store, to pick up a solid, plain (read cheap) door, for the cat's room. Last fall, Gilbert realized that the window, over the door was only single paned and that the door had "cracks" in it. You could actually see daylight, coming through. He had covered the door with a sheet of plastic but had promised to replace this door, this summer.

Well, since we're in renovations over our head, he figured that we might as well replace the door - NOW!  *s*

And, when you start renovations on an old house... there's ALWAYS something that's either crooked or rotten, or outdated.. well, I'm sure you get the picture. LOL

Gilbert removed the old door. Minou (hiding behind the door) had to inspect, along with Thunder.

New door, waiting to be installed. As Gilbert had to raise the floor, a bit - due to crooked floors, and re-build the door step.. he also had to cut this door to fit.

Normally, placing a door would be an easy job, but as I said... the house is crooked! LOL

This job took a good part of the day.

View of the side entrance, where the door will go.

Gilbert's getting ready to put in the new door and FINALLY place the flooring.

Pic taken from outside. You can see the door jam, that Gilbert had to re-build.

Walls have layers and layers and layers upon MORE layers of wallpaper. Original wallpaper was just placed over plaster. *s*

Door molding was removed.

NOTE: Upper window will be sealed in. We really don't need any light in that hallway. Besides, I've been told that cats can see in the dark! LOL

Gilbert checking that the door fits properly.

Door fits - everyone's happy!  LOL

Now, to cover up that top window and put some framing around the door.

*s*

Gilbert scratches his head, every time he looks at this box. He feels it's ugly and the job wasn't done properly.

He plans on building a nice wooden "box" around around it... to hide the exposed wires.

One of the things our insurance people asked us, when we first moved in, "Does it have modern wires?"

If ever you're looking to buy an old house, I guess that's important.

Luckily for us, the whole house has updated wiring.
