Day 11

 (Saturday - 21 July 2007)

Saturday morning and we're up, bright and early.

The top of the wall is being measured, for a sheet of gyprock.

As expected, the ceiling and the floor measurements are not even. Gyprock will have to be cut, accordingly. *s*

Here, you see Gilbert measuring the piece of gyprock.

Supplies have to be picked up, as renovations are done.  Difficult to predict the little "surprises" that this old house has in store, for us.

Note: Here you see the old (side entrance) door, on the ground.

Anyone want an old door, with cracks in it?!?  LOL

Thunder is inspecting his Dad's work.

Gilbert had to groove some lines in the (old) wall, for wiring.

Another closeup of the old wall, and the grooves that Gilbert did. This took a long time, as he had to cut through several layers... AND pre-think of all the wiring required.

Gyprock will go over this wall, obviously.

My oldest son, Adam and his girlfriend, went away for the weekend. We got to dog sit!

Here's Smokey and Thunder, keeping Gilbert company, while he takes a break.

Friday, Gilbert had installed 1 sheet of "flooring", on the wall, to the right. He will be putting in pieces of wood, then insullation and THEN, a sheet of gyprock.

In this picture, you will note that he started tearing down the middle part... removing layers upon layers of wallpaper and the same cement. Debris is put in boxes and will be put by the side of the road, for garbage pickup.

Another picture of this wall, facing the front of the street. Since there was no insulation, and the windows need to be re-framed, Gilbert is saving this wall, as the final part of renovations.

Gilbert finally placed the gyprock, over where he had grooved.

Smokey seems to like to inspect, also. LOL

Okay, I stand corrected.

Today, Gilbert noticed some "hairs", amongst the cement that he removed, from the wall, facing the street.

I remember hearing that they used to insulate with horse hairs or sawdust. *s*

So far, we haven't encountered sawdust, in our walls. Gilbert decided to save this chunk of horse hair, in a mini ziplock.

I don't know about you, but I think I prefer the modern "pink" insulation stuff, to horse hair!  LOL

Okay, minor setback.  Gilbert's work day was finished and we sat down for supper, around 8h30. We turned on the kitchen T.V.

Cable reception was horible!

He started thinking, and it wasn't a good thing. Main cable wire came into the living room. He had placed a "splitter" there, to redistribute cable t.v., throughout the house....

A new sheet of gyrock was covering this defective "splitter". Gilbert says that he had tested the electrical wiring, internet connections, etc, etc.... but didn't think (at the time), to check the cable connection.  :-(

Sunday morning, he would have to remove that sheet of gyprock and change the splitter.
