Operation Jane's

 2006 Jlogs (AKA Blogs)

The Jane Stickle quilt was made during the American Civil War. She signed her quilt "In War Time 1863." Jane created a masterpiece consisting of 169 4.5" (approx.) square blocks surrounded by fifty-two 8"x5" triangles and four corner triangles. She pieced and appliquéd her blocks giving a variety for the viewer to behold.

January/02/2006

Worked on "Snowball" (F-3)  - this was the BOW (Block of the Week) and once again, managed to finish it on time!!!

January/03/2006

Worked on "Maria's Majesty" (I-5) - Okay, this wasn't a BOW and I just felt like doing a pinkish one. Okay, it didn't turn out all that great, but as Brenda says "Finished is better than Perfect". So, this block remains in the "keepsie" pile. *s*

January/08/2006

FINISHED "Epicenter" (TR-R-3)  - this was the TOW (Block of the Week) and managed to finish it on time, but gosh, this was a HARD ONE!!!

January/09/2006

DH photographed the last seven triangles and blocks, yesterday evening. Unfortunately, the pictures didn't turn out so good. So he photographed them (again) tonight and I will be busy posting them on my "Operation Dear Jane" web page! *s*

As far as my Secret Pal group, so far, it's been a blast trying to shop and think of MY Secret Pal. And all the emails sent back and forth are a blast, too! I think I'm gonna enjoy this, BIG TIME!... *VBG*

January/10/2006

Did the BOW (Block of the Week), on time! "Stephanie's Snowflake" (L-2)  was fun, because I love to do PP (Paper Piecing)!

January/15/2006

Did the TOW - "Frank's Rickrack" (TR-B-6)  - had a hard time with the appliqué, once more, but it is done!

January/20/2006

Did the BOW. "Crystal Star" (D-4)  was fun too, but there were 4 "melons" to appliqué. So far, I'm doing okay with the appliqués - they're fun and I know I've improved, but when I look at the other people's appliqués, on the net, I think I have a long way to go. *shrug* But I guess that's the wonderful thing with this quilt - You can actually see your own personal "journey" with Jane, in each block - as you improve in your skills! *s*

January/22/2006

Finished "Pinwheel Gone Awry" (A-1). Felt pretty proud of myself, too! But then, when I looked and re-looked at that darn block, I realized that I made a "Blooper", again. I'll probably post this one on my "Blooper's Page"... and try to un-do it or re-do it. We'll see. Therefore, I'm not highlighting this one as finished, yet.

NOTE: "Pinwheel Gone Awry (A-1)" has since been COMPLETED and it looks good.

January/22/2006

Another TOW completed!!! "Nancee's Fantasy" (TR-L-1)  was fun to PP (Paper Piecing), and try to figure out how to do this one, without doing the "appliqué" thing.

January/24/2006

Did the BOW - this was my New Year's Resolution - to keep up with the BOWs and the TOWs - so far, so good! *s* "Cabin Fever" (A-9)  was fun, because I love to do PP (Paper Piecing)! I just can't imagine trying to do all those little pieces without my "paper piecing"! *s*

January/25/2006

Finished the TOW - "Norway's Fjord" (TR-T-7)  - This was a fun one to try and figure out "how to do it, without appliqués". Okay, so it's not PERFECT, but it's done.  Once again, the mantra "Finished is better than Perfect" runs through my head and I look at it and tell myself "It's passable - it looks somewhat like in the book... therefore, it remains!" LOL

January/27/2006

Friday evening and I got all my blocks and triangles lined up for a photo shoot. DH took the pics for me, but this is getting too difficult. I wait until I have a whole bunch to get photographed and then I have to do the uploading to my web page, count the pieces, document in the jlogs, etc, etc.  I think it might be easier if I do the "photo shoot" every time I complete a block or triangle. I'll try to do that next time. *s*

Anyhow, I don't think I'll upload my triangles, right now. Save that for tomorrow morning... maybe. *s*

January/28/2006

My Mom's birthday today - We're supposed to go out, for dinner (noon time) at "East Side Mario's" - a pizza place.  Since I'm all caught up with the TOW and BOW (this time), I'm supposed to work on my last "I-Spy" quilt, this weekend and for some stupid reason I keep hemming and hawing on THAT particular quilt. I'll have to buckle down and get it done. THAT'S IT!!! *s*

Anyhow, it's only 8 am and I finally uploaded ALL completed blocks and triangles! Then, I think I'll work on another (new) web page.  Should be fun! And since this page (and others) on my web site are getting fairly big, I want to try and divide them up, according to the year. For example: 2005 Jlogs and 2006 Jlogs, etc.

We'll see how that goes.

February/1/2006

For some strange reason - blame it on my brain and not me - LOL.... I forgot to add this one on my DJ Web Page, and on this page, also. Completed "Passing Through" (K-5).

February/5/2006

Finished "Linda's Church in the Valley" (TR-R-12) .That was fun paper piecing and although it's not "perfect", it's a "keeper"!

February/10/2006

Finished "Nicholas' Diamond" (TR-B-10) . This one, really is "off" a bit, but it's a "keeper", too! *s*

February/10/2006

Had a productive day, today! I wanted to have some "appliqué" to work on, between the TOWs and the BOWS, so I did "Batchelor Buttons" (B-1) . The little buttons don't seem to be properly "spaced", but it's gonna haveta be a "keeper"... LOL  I'm NOT re-doing it! *s*

February/15/2006

Finished "Hunter's Moon" (A-3) . Had to do this one twice. The first time I tried doing melons, that were appliquéd - What a mistake! That block got put on my "Blooper Page". LOL

The second time, I cut out a "circle", and then did what I think is called "reverse" appliqué. Anyhow, it got done and I'm quite pleased with it. *s*

February/17/2006

I HATE muslim!!! I don't think I've mentioned it, before, but that darn stuff FRAYS!!!  And I know there's stuff to buy, out there, to prevent fraying, but WHY BOTHER?!!? The "bed sheet" that I bought, is a nice fabric - it's ivory colored, and doesn't fray HALF AS MUCH, as muslim!!!  Anyhow, I've got "Hannah Lou's Hearts" (H-12)  finished and the darn muslim is fraying REAL BAD. *sigh*

I may end up having to re-do it, BEFORE I start sewing these little blocks together... *sigh*

February/18/2006

Finished "Thea's Turn" (K-4) . Paper piecing heaven - Easy Smeasy! LOL

February/19/2006

Oh My GOODNESS!! Finished "Northern Lights" (TR-L-8) . Paper pieced as much as I could, and appliquéd the small triangles and melons.

February/23/2006

"Mirror Image" (B-3) - This one was FUN!!!  I paper pieced it all, and appliquéd the "circle". I've noticed that my "appliqués" are getting better - thanks to my glue stick. Hopefully, this will not leave a residue when I eventually quilt my DJ and wash it. *keeping fingers crossed*

February/24/2006

"Iris' Medallion" (I-10)  - Last week's BOW. Paper pieced the background - paper pieced the "star" and then appliquéd it on. Didn't turn out too bad, in my books..

February/26/2006

"Goshen" (TLC) This was the last TOW, of the series. Apparently, we're supposed to start ALL OVER AGAIN. And I can now say, with GREAT PRIDE, that I have TWO KITES, completed!!

February/28/2006

Uploaded a whole bunch of blocks and triangles, last night. And I am now, updating my "Jlogs". *s*

Okay (1/2 an hour later)... "Jlogs" are now updated, but I think I'll try and re-divide them up, according to the "year"... and HEY!!! I had another idea!!! I can make my finished blocks and Tris... "linkable", to their picture - now why didn't I think of that BEFORE!??!... *VBG*

This "idea" of mine may take a few man (or woman) hours, but I KNOW I can do that...

Later

Might make the "text" bigger. I'm having a hard time reading it, tonight. *s*

March/3/2006

Took the afternoon off, from work, so I could start my "March Break Vacation" a bit early!

And since I had already completed the week's BOW, I decided to do an "easy" one - "Adelaine's Apron Strings" (J-4), was finished.

The TOW (Triangle of the Week) was "Rosemary's Rainbow, and since I had already done that one, I exchanged it for "Spanish Moss" (TR-T-1) . This one was an easy one, but had a lot of little pieces. *s*

March/5/2006

Completed "Hot Cross Buns" (B-5). This was an easy one.

March/7/2006

Completed the TOW "Checkerboard" (TR-T-3). This was an easy one.

March/11/2006

My good friend, Jo Spindle is "under the weather" and as I'm at a loss...  I decided to go on a "sewing marathon".  I realized that I was close to have completed 50 blocks - which would give me another "title"... Don't know which one, but I do know that at 25 completed blocks, you become a "Silver Jane". Anyhow, today, I completed:

"Lynette's Diamond" (M-13). This was this week's BOW and I HATED DOING IT!!! Put it off for as long as I could! Hate to do "curved" sewing!!! Nasty stuff!

"Four Corner Press" (B-13). Easy one!

"Field of Dreams" (D-13). Easy one!

"Quilt Jail" (E-9). Easy one!

"Ralph & Nelda's Wedding" (I-1). This one would have been easy, but I had some some caramel colored fabric, with hearts in it, and I fussy cut it - turned out nice, if I do say so, myself! *s*

March/12/2006

My last day off - I decided to continue my marathon. Completed:

"Doris's Dilemma" (K-12). Easy one!

"Farm Fields" (H-13). Another easy one!

"Florence Nightingale" (A-8). Another easy one! *s*

"Trooper Green's Badge" (C-1). Easy again!

And that was it, for my sewing marathon - Not too bad, eh?  Okay, I picked the easy ones... Sometimes, they're fun to do, too! *s*

DH took pictures of all my blocks and triangles. Now, to upload them to my page and to "hyperlink" the new blocks and tris, on THIS page, too.

March/15/2006

This week's TOW was "Love Forever" (TR-R-8), which I managed to complete, on time. *s* I did this one ALL appliqué - even the round thingy, at the bottom.

March/17/2006

And this week's BOW was "Four Leaf Clover" (G-3), because of St. Patrick's Day. Once again, I'm on time with the BOWs and the TOWs!

March/21/2006

I wanted to do an "easy" appliqué as Gilbert had suggested a movie, last weekend and in no time at all, I had my "tears" on freezer paper and ironed onto my fabric. I finally completed "Jane's Tears" (C-9). And I've noticed that my appliqué skills have improved, too!

March/22/2006

I had already printed this one out, during my "sewing marathon". I decided to whip it up, as it was REAL easy paper-piecing. Completed "Shutter Bug" (G-4). And I've noticed that my appliqué skills have improved, too!

March/23/2006

Last night, I printed out the DJ "table" and re-scotch taped my itsy bitsy pieces of fabric, onto that page. I printed out "one" page, to start my "hand written" DJ journal - as per my friend's Jo Spindle's advice. *s*

Then, I buckled down (even more) and counted and re-counted and re-re-counted my blocks. I'm at 49, but with this week's BOW, I'll FINALLY be at 50!!!

DH took pictures of my recently completed blocks and triangle, which I will post, shortly, on my DJ web page.

And my BOW is 1/2 way completed!!! *s*
