Home Office Renovations
(BEFORE) Pictures

We moved into our 1880 (circa) home in June 2000. This home had been converted into a 2 story (2 apartment) home.

Gilbert saw the potential in this house - he found out where the old stairwell used to be and put stairs (back) in.

We decided to use the previous "living room" (upstairs), as the master bedroom.

And what was one of the bedrooms (8' X 10'), we took it over as our "Home Office". *VBG*

A lot of the rooms had to be renovated:

crooked floors, 10, 20 or maybe 30 (??) layers of wallpaper, one plastered over the other, and plaster underneath it.

And since Gilbert and I are both "Computer Geeks" and in this day and age, are not ashamed to admit it (LOL),

we spend a LOT of time in our "Home Office".

This 8' X 10' room was renovated in March 2004. Here's the pictures and story.

(Pssst... you'll have to click on the thumbnail to see the picture in full size.)

Our home office is located right off our "bedroom".

This is a picture of one of the walls (near Gilbert).

(Pssst... notice the ugly wallpaper???)

This is a picture of the wall, facing me (Rosa).

Here's one where we've cleared off the desk and getting the office ready for a new face lift!

The top part of our office. Remember, these are BEFORE pictures.

In this picture, the office furniture has been removed and Gilbert removed the molding, that was there.

This is the temporary "set-up" we had, while the office was being renovated.

In the foreground, you see Novac's ears (that was our other German Shepherd) and on the right,

you see the office, with the ugly wallpaper.

Here's a picture of me, playing with my Palm Pilot, and patiently waiting for

our "Home Office" to be completed. *s*

Gilbert is starting to work on renovations.

I think he was contemplating the BIG job, ahead of him, in such a small room! LOL

Look carefully at our old window and radiator.

Two pictures of what the baseboard and floor looked like.

You know what they say, about renovations - You never know what you'll find, behind the walls?

Well, this was one of the most fascinating things that Gilbert & I came across.... SQUARE NAILS!!!

I now have one that I carry around with me... When I'm with someone and I'm looking for a good conversation piece (this works great for carpenters or elderly people), I'll pull it out of my wallet and ask them if they ever saw something like this before.

Works every time and it's fun hearing what they have to say about my "Square Nail"... LOL

Since this house was very old and this room had been converted into a bedroom, by the previous owners, there was just one plug. And if you're a computer geek, like us,

I'm sure you'll appreciate the fact that there's never enough plugs and too many "wires" hanging around.

Gilbert had already decided how many plugs and what should be "run" into the walls, or underneath the floor: ex: cable wires, electrical, telephone, etc, etc.

PLUS, the floor was not level. He had to level it out, BEFORE he put in the plywood and floor tiles.

NOTE: In this 8' X 10" bedroom, there was a 3 INCH difference (in the floor), from one corner of the room, to the other. Therefore, a lot of floor "leveling", BEFORE he could even think about adding his sheets of plywood down.

Walls are being "plastered" and we're discussing "colors" and accessories, etc, etc.

Now, THIS is the part that "I" love to do!!!!  *VBG*

Please note the background of this page, and it might give you an idea on what "theme" we finally agreed upon, for our "Home Office". *VBG*

Another picture of the plastered room.

We had a couple fans placed in there (temporarily), to try and help the plaster dry.

These are some of the pictures that were taken, during our "Home Office Renovations - BEFORE".

We started during our week off (March Break 2004), and from start to finish, took about 1 month. Gilbert worked on it during our week off, and then, during evenings and weekends.

But you know what it's like: Each step has to be followed, plaster has to dry, more material needs to be purchased, etc, etc.

Anyhow, we're quite pleased with the results and in the next web page, you'll be able to see the "transformation"!
